1  And these⁴²⁸ are the countries which⁸³⁴ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ inherited⁵¹⁵⁷ in the land⁷⁷⁶ of Canaan,³⁶⁶⁷ which⁸³⁴ Eleazar⁴⁹⁹ the priest,³⁵⁴⁸ and Joshua³⁰⁹¹ the son¹¹²¹ of Nun,⁵¹²⁶ and the heads⁷²¹⁸ of the fathers¹ of the tribes⁴²⁹⁴ of the children¹¹²¹ of Israel,³⁴⁷⁸ distributed for inheritance⁵¹⁵⁷ to them.

2  By lot¹⁴⁸⁶ was their inheritance,⁵¹⁵⁹ as⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ commanded⁶⁶⁸⁰ by the hand³⁰²⁷ of Moses,⁴⁸⁷² for the nine⁸⁶⁷² tribes,⁴²⁹⁴ and for the half²⁶⁷⁷ tribe.⁴²⁹⁴

3  For³⁵⁸⁸ Moses⁴⁸⁷² had given⁵⁴¹⁴ the inheritance⁵¹⁵⁹ of two⁸¹⁴⁷ tribes⁴²⁹⁴ and a half²⁶⁷⁷ tribe⁴²⁹⁴ on the other side^{4480 5676} Jordan:³³⁸³ but unto the Levites³⁸⁸¹ he gave⁵⁴¹⁴ none³⁸⁰⁸ inheritance⁵¹⁵⁹ among⁸⁴³² them.

4  For³⁵⁸⁸ the children¹¹²¹ of Joseph³¹³⁰ were¹⁹⁶¹ two⁸¹⁴⁷ tribes,⁴²⁹⁴ Manasseh⁴⁵¹⁹ and Ephraim:⁶⁶⁹ therefore they gave⁵⁴¹⁴ no³⁸⁰⁸ part²⁵⁰⁶ unto the Levites³⁸⁸¹ in the land,⁷⁷⁶ save^{3588 518} cities⁵⁸⁹² to dwell³⁴²⁷ in, with their suburbs⁴⁰⁵⁴ for their cattle⁴⁷³⁵ and for their substance.⁷⁰⁷⁵

5  As⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ commanded^{6680 853} Moses,⁴⁸⁷² so³⁶⁵¹ the children¹¹²¹ of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ did,⁶²¹³ and they divided^{2505 853} the land.⁷⁷⁶

6  Then the children¹¹²¹ of Judah³⁰⁶³ came⁵⁰⁶⁶ unto⁴¹³ Joshua³⁰⁹¹ in Gilgal:¹⁵³⁷ and Caleb³⁶¹² the son¹¹²¹ of Jephunneh³³¹² the Kenezite⁷⁰⁷⁴ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ him, Thou⁸⁵⁹ knowest^{3045 853} the thing¹⁶⁹⁷ that⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said¹⁶⁹⁶ unto⁴¹³ Moses⁴⁸⁷² the man³⁷⁶ of God⁴³⁰ concerning^{5921 182} me and thee in Kadesh-barnea.⁶⁹⁴⁷

7  Forty⁷⁰⁵ years⁸¹⁴¹ old¹¹²¹ was I⁵⁹⁵ when Moses⁴⁸⁷² the servant⁵⁶⁵⁰ of the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ sent⁷⁹⁷¹ me from Kadesh-barnea^{4480 6947} to espy out^{7270 853} the land;⁷⁷⁶ and I brought⁷⁷²⁵ him word¹⁶⁹⁷ again as⁸³⁴ it was in⁵⁹⁷³ mine heart.³⁸²⁴

8  Nevertheless my brethren²⁵¹ that⁸³⁴ went up⁵⁹²⁷ with⁵⁹⁷³ me made ⁸⁵³ the heart³⁸²⁰ of the people⁵⁹⁷¹ melt:⁴⁵²⁹ but I⁵⁹⁵ wholly⁴³⁹⁰ followed³¹⁰ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ my God.⁴³⁰

9  And Moses⁴⁸⁷² swore⁷⁶⁵⁰ on that¹⁹³¹ day,³¹¹⁷ saying,⁵⁵⁹ Surely^{518 3808} the land⁷⁷⁶ whereon⁸³⁴ thy feet⁷²⁷² have trodden¹⁸⁶⁹ shall be¹⁹⁶¹ thine inheritance,⁵¹⁵⁹ and thy children's¹¹²¹ forever,^{5704 5769} because³⁵⁸⁸ thou hast wholly⁴³⁹⁰ followed³¹⁰ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ my God.⁴³⁰

10  And now,⁶²⁵⁸ behold,²⁰⁰⁹ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ hath kept me alive,^{2421 853} as⁸³⁴ he said,¹⁶⁹⁶ these²⁰⁸⁸ forty⁷⁰⁵ and five²⁵⁶⁸ years,⁸¹⁴¹ even since^{4480 227} the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ spoke^{1696 853} this²⁰⁸⁸ word¹⁶⁹⁷ unto⁴¹³ Moses,⁴⁸⁷² while⁸³⁴ the children of Israel³⁴⁷⁸ wandered¹⁹⁸⁰ in the wilderness:⁴⁰⁵⁷ and now,⁶²⁵⁸ lo,²⁰⁰⁹ I⁵⁹⁵ am this day³¹¹⁷ fourscore⁸⁰⁸⁴ and five²⁵⁶⁸ years⁸¹⁴¹ old.¹¹²¹

11  As yet⁵⁷⁵⁰ I am as strong²³⁸⁹ this day³¹¹⁷ as⁸³⁴ I was in the day³¹¹⁷ that Moses⁴⁸⁷² sent⁷⁹⁷¹ me: as my strength³⁵⁸¹ was then,²²⁷ even so is my strength³⁵⁸¹ now,⁶²⁵⁸ for war,⁴⁴²¹ both to go out,³³¹⁸ and to come in.⁹³⁵

12  Now⁶²⁵⁸ therefore give⁵⁴¹⁴ me ⁸⁵³ this²⁰⁸⁸ mountain,²⁰²² whereof⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ spoke¹⁶⁹⁶ in that¹⁹³¹ day;³¹¹⁷ for³⁵⁸⁸ thou⁸⁵⁹ heardest⁸⁰⁸⁵ in that¹⁹³¹ day³¹¹⁷ how³⁵⁸⁸ the Anakims⁶⁰⁶² were there,⁸⁰³³ and that the cities⁵⁸⁹² were great¹⁴¹⁹ and fenced:¹²¹⁹ if¹⁹⁴ so be the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ will be with⁸⁵⁴ me, then I shall be able to drive them out,³⁴²³ as⁸³⁴ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ said.¹⁶⁹⁶

13  And Joshua³⁰⁹¹ blessed¹²⁸⁸ him, and gave⁵⁴¹⁴ unto Caleb³⁶¹² the son¹¹²¹ of Jephunneh^{3312 853} Hebron²²⁷⁵ for an inheritance.⁵¹⁵⁹

14  Hebron²²⁷⁵ therefore^{5921 3651} became¹⁹⁶¹ the inheritance⁵¹⁵⁹ of Caleb³⁶¹² the son¹¹²¹ of Jephunneh³³¹² the Kenezite⁷⁰⁷⁴ unto⁵⁷⁰⁴ this²⁰⁸⁸ day,³¹¹⁷ because³²⁸² that⁸³⁴ he wholly⁴³⁹⁰ followed³¹⁰ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ God⁴³⁰ of Israel.³⁴⁷⁸

15  And the name⁸⁰³⁴ of Hebron²²⁷⁵ before⁶⁴⁴⁰ was Kirjath-arba;⁷¹⁵³ which Arba was a great¹⁴¹⁹ man¹²⁰ among the Anakims.⁶⁰⁶² And the land⁷⁷⁶ had rest⁸²⁵² from war.^{4480 4421}

1 καὶ οὗτοι οἱ κατακληρονομήσαντες υἱῶν Ισραηλ ἐν τῇ γῇ Χανααν οἷς κατεκληρονόμησεν αὐτοῖς Ελεαζαρ ὁ ἱερεὺς καὶ Ἰησοῦς ὁ τοῦ Ναυη καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες πατριῶν φυλῶν τῶν υἱῶν Ισραηλ

2 κατὰ κλήρους ἐκληρονόμησαν ὃν τρόπον ἐνετείλατο κύριος ἐν χειρὶ Ἰησοῦ ταῖς ἐννέα φυλαῖς καὶ τῷ ἡμίσει φυλῆς

3 ἀπὸ τοῦ πέραν τοῦ Ιορδάνου καὶ τοῖς Λευίταις οὐκ ἔδωκεν κλῆρον ἐν αὐτοῖς

4 ὅτι ἦσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ιωσηφ δύο φυλαί Μανασση καὶ Εφραιμ καὶ οὐκ ἐδόθη μερὶς ἐν τῇ γῇ τοῖς Λευίταις ἀλλ᾽ ἢ πόλεις κατοικεῖν καὶ τὰ ἀφωρισμένα αὐτῶν τοῖς κτήνεσιν καὶ τὰ κτήνη αὐτῶν

5 ὃν τρόπον ἐνετείλατο κύριος τῷ Μωυσῇ οὕτως ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ισραηλ καὶ ἐμέρισαν τὴν γῆν

6 καὶ προσήλθοσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ιουδα πρὸς Ἰησοῦν ἐν Γαλγαλ καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Χαλεβ ὁ τοῦ Ιεφοννη ὁ Κενεζαῖος σὺ ἐπίστῃ τὸ ῥῆμα ὃ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν ἄνθρωπον τοῦ θεοῦ περὶ ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ ἐν Καδης Βαρνη

7 τεσσαράκοντα γὰρ ἐτῶν ἤμην ὅτε ἀπέστειλέν με Μωυσῆς ὁ παῖς τοῦ θεοῦ ἐκ Καδης Βαρνη κατασκοπεῦσαι τὴν γῆν καὶ ἀπεκρίθην αὐτῷ λόγον κατὰ τὸν νοῦν αὐτοῦ

8 οἱ δὲ ἀδελφοί μου οἱ ἀναβάντες μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ μετέστησαν τὴν καρδίαν τοῦ λαοῦ ἐγὼ δὲ προσετέθην ἐπακολουθῆσαι κυρίῳ τῷ θεῷ μου

9 καὶ ὤμοσεν Μωυσῆς ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ λέγων ἡ γῆ ἐφ᾽ ἣν ἐπέβης σοὶ ἔσται ἐν κλήρῳ καὶ τοῖς τέκνοις σου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ὅτι προσετέθης ἐπακολουθῆσαι ὀπίσω κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν

10 καὶ νῦν διέθρεψέν με κύριος ὃν τρόπον εἶπεν τοῦτο τεσσαρακοστὸν καὶ πέμπτον ἔτος ἀφ᾽ οὗ ἐλάλησεν κύριος τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ισραηλ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ καὶ νῦν ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ σήμερον ὀγδοήκοντα καὶ πέντε ἐτῶν

11 ἔτι εἰμὶ σήμερον ἰσχύων ὡσεὶ ὅτε ἀπέστειλέν με Μωυσῆς ὡσαύτως ἰσχύω νῦν ἐξελθεῖν καὶ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὸν πόλεμον

12 καὶ νῦν αἰτοῦμαί σε τὸ ὄρος τοῦτο καθὰ εἶπεν κύριος τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ὅτι σὺ ἀκήκοας τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ νυνὶ δὲ οἱ Ενακιμ ἐκεῖ εἰσιν πόλεις ὀχυραὶ καὶ μεγάλαι ἐὰν οὖν κύριος μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ ᾖ ἐξολεθρεύσω αὐτούς ὃν τρόπον εἶπέν μοι κύριος

13 καὶ εὐλόγησεν αὐτὸν Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἔδωκεν τὴν Χεβρων τῷ Χαλεβ υἱῷ Ιεφοννη υἱοῦ Κενεζ ἐν κλήρῳ

14 διὰ τοῦτο ἐγενήθη ἡ Χεβρων τῷ Χαλεβ τῷ τοῦ Ιεφοννη τοῦ Κενεζαίου ἐν κλήρῳ ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης διὰ τὸ αὐτὸν ἐπακολουθῆσαι τῷ προστάγματι κυρίου θεοῦ Ισραηλ

15 τὸ δὲ ὄνομα τῆς Χεβρων ἦν τὸ πρότερον πόλις Αρβοκ μητρόπολις τῶν Ενακιμ αὕτη καὶ ἡ γῆ ἐκόπασεν τοῦ πολέμου

‎3 ‏כִּֽי־נָתַ֨ן מֹשֶׁ֜ה נַחֲלַ֨ת שְׁנֵ֤י הַמַּטּוֹת֙ וַחֲצִ֣י הַמַּטֶּ֔ה מֵעֵ֖בֶר לַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן וְלַ֨לְוִיִּ֔ם לֹֽא־נָתַ֥ן נַחֲלָ֖ה בְּתוֹכָֽם׃

‎4 ‏כִּֽי־הָי֧וּ בְנֵֽי־יוֹסֵ֛ף שְׁנֵ֥י מַטּ֖וֹת מְנַשֶּׁ֣ה וְאֶפְרָ֑יִם וְלֹֽא־נָתְנוּ֩ חֵ֨לֶק לַלְוִיִּ֜ם בָּאָ֗רֶץ כִּ֤י אִם־עָרִים֙ לָשֶׁ֔בֶת וּמִ֨גְרְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם לְמִקְנֵיהֶ֖ם וּלְקִנְיָנָֽם׃

‎5 ‏כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֔ה כֵּ֥ן עָשׂ֖וּ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיַּחְלְק֖וּ אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ פ

‎6 ‏וַיִּגְּשׁ֨וּ בְנֵֽי־יְהוּדָ֤ה אֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ בַּגִּלְגָּ֔ל וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו כָּלֵ֥ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֖ה הַקְּנִזִּ֑י אַתָּ֣ה יָדַ֡עְתָּ אֶֽת־הַדָּבָר֩ אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֨ר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֣ה אִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים עַ֧ל אֹדוֹתַ֛י וְעַ֥ל אֹדוֹתֶ֖יךָ בְּקָדֵ֥שׁ בַּרְנֵֽעַ׃

‎7 ‏בֶּן־אַרְבָּעִ֨ים שָׁנָ֜ה אָנֹכִ֗י בִּ֠שְׁלֹחַ מֹשֶׁ֨ה עֶֽבֶד־יְהוָ֥ה אֹתִ֛י מִקָּדֵ֥שׁ בַּרְנֵ֖עַ לְרַגֵּ֣ל אֶת־הָאָ֑רֶץ וָאָשֵׁ֤ב אֹתוֹ֙ דָּבָ֔ר כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר עִם־לְבָבִֽי׃

‎8 ‏וְאַחַי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָל֣וּ עִמִּ֔י הִמְסִ֖יו אֶת־לֵ֣ב הָעָ֑ם וְאָנֹכִ֣י מִלֵּ֔אתִי אַחֲרֵ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽי׃

‎9 ‏וַיִּשָּׁבַ֣ע מֹשֶׁ֗ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַהוּא֮ לֵאמֹר֒ אִם־לֹ֗א הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר דָּרְכָ֤ה רַגְלְךָ֙ בָּ֔הּ לְךָ֨³ תִֽהְיֶ֧ה לְנַחֲלָ֛ה וּלְבָנֶ֖יךָ עַד־עוֹלָ֑ם כִּ֣י מִלֵּ֔אתָ אַחֲרֵ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽי׃

‎10 ‏וְעַתָּ֗ה הִנֵּה֩ הֶחֱיָ֨ה יְהוָ֣ה׀ אוֹתִי֮ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֵּר֒ זֶה֩ אַרְבָּעִ֨ים וְחָמֵ֜שׁ שָׁנָ֗ה מֵ֠אָז דִּבֶּ֨ר יְהוָ֜ה אֶת־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־הָלַ֥ךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר וְעַתָּה֙ הִנֵּ֣ה אָנֹכִ֣י הַיּ֔וֹם בֶּן־חָמֵ֥שׁ וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖ים שָׁנָֽה׃

‎11 ‏עוֹדֶ֨נִּי הַיּ֜וֹם חָזָ֗ק כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙ בְּי֨וֹם שְׁלֹ֤חַ אוֹתִי֙ מֹשֶׁ֔ה כְּכֹ֥חִי אָ֖ז וּכְכֹ֣חִי עָ֑תָּה לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה וְלָצֵ֥את וְלָבֽוֹא׃

‎12 ‏וְעַתָּ֗ה תְּנָה־לִּי֙ אֶת־הָהָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא כִּ֣י אַתָּֽה־שָׁמַעְתָּ֩ בַיּ֨וֹם הַה֜וּא כִּֽי־עֲנָקִ֣ים שָׁ֗ם וְעָרִים֙ גְּדֹל֣וֹת בְּצֻר֔וֹת אוּלַ֨י יְהוָ֤ה אוֹתִי֙ וְה֣וֹרַשְׁתִּ֔ים כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃

‎13 ‏וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּ יְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ וַיִּתֵּ֧ן אֶת־חֶבְר֛וֹן לְכָלֵ֥ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֖ה לְנַחֲלָֽה׃

‎14 ‏עַל־כֵּ֣ן הָיְתָֽה־חֶ֠בְרוֹן לְכָלֵ֨ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֤ה הַקְּנִזִּי֙ לְֽנַחֲלָ֔ה עַ֖ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה יַ֚עַן אֲשֶׁ֣ר מִלֵּ֔א אַחֲרֵ֕י יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

‎15 ‏וְשֵׁ֨ם חֶבְר֤וֹן לְפָנִים֙ קִרְיַ֣ת אַרְבַּ֔ע הָאָדָ֧ם הַגָּד֛וֹל בָּעֲנָקִ֖ים ה֑וּא וְהָאָ֥רֶץ שָׁקְטָ֖ה מִמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ פ

1 Hoc est quod possederunt filii Israël in terra Chanaan, quam dederunt eis Eleazar sacerdos, et Josue filius Nun, et principes familiarum per tribus Israël:

2 sorte omnia dividentes, sicut præceperat Dominus in manu Moysi, novem tribubus, et dimidiæ tribui.

3 Duabus enim tribubus, et dimidiæ, dederat Moyses trans Jordanem possessionem: absque Levitis, qui nihil terræ acceperunt inter fratres suos:

4 sed in eorum successerunt locum filii Joseph in duas divisi tribus, Manasse et Ephraim: nec acceperunt Levitæ aliam in terra partem, nisi urbes ad habitandum, et suburbana earum ad alenda jumenta et pecora sua.

5 Sicut præceperat Dominus Moysi, ita fecerunt filii Israël, et diviserunt terram.

6 Accesserunt itaque filii Juda ad Josue in Galgala, locutusque est ad eum Caleb filius Jephone Cenezæus: Nosti quid locutus sit Dominus ad Moysen hominem Dei de me et te in Cadesbarne.

7 Quadraginta annorum eram quando misit me Moyses famulus Domini de Cadesbarne, ut considerarem terram, nuntiavique ei quod mihi verum videbatur.

8 Fratres autem mei, qui ascenderant mecum, dissolverunt cor populi: et nihilominus ego secutus sum Dominum Deum meum.

9 Juravitque Moyses in die illo, dicens: Terra, quam calcavit pes tuus, erit possessio tua, et filiorum tuorum in æternum: quia secutus es Dominum Deum meum.

10 Concessit ergo Dominus vitam mihi, sicut pollicitus est, usque in præsentem diem. Quadraginta et quinque anni sunt, ex quo locutus est Dominus verbum istud ad Moysen, quando ambulabat Israël per solitudinem: hodie octoginta quinque annorum sum,

11 sic valens ut eo valebam tempore quando ad explorandum missus sum: illius in me temporis fortitudo usque hodie perseverat, tam ad bellandum quam ad gradiendum.

12 Da ergo mihi montem istum, quem pollicitus est Dominus, te quoque audiente, in quo Enacim sunt, et urbes magnæ atque munitæ: si forte sit Dominus mecum, et potuero delere eos, sicut promisit mihi.

13 Benedixitque ei Josue, et tradidit ei Hebron in possessionem:

14 atque ex eo fuit Hebron Caleb filio Jephone Cenezæo usque in præsentem diem, quia secutus est Dominum Deum Israël.

15 Nomen Hebron ante vocabatur Cariath Arbe: Adam maximus ibi inter Enacim situs est: et terra cessavit a præliis.
